Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham prolonged their winning streak in away games in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed their historic home behind after 133 years at the end of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from set-pieces in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at risk, and they were unable to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had equalized the tally a short while after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an Everton corner.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a number of opportunities, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of fine stops to ensure the London club went five away games without defeat in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, advising Craig Pawson to review the goal on the pitchside monitor and the official decided that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory moves the manager's team into third place in the division, five points off local foes and leaders the Gunners.

Everton stay 14th and are half a dozen points clear of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils role at both ends of pitch

Following a uninspiring midweek performance in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, Frank opted for the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being replaced for the substitute after 60 minutes on the field, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the end.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball back across the six-yard box for an free the defender to head home.

And the captain - filling in as captain in the Argentine's unavailability - notched his next goal in first-half stoppage time as he rose above Jordan Pickford to head home.

The Dutchman was just as outstanding in defensive duties, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the pair dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries thrown their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Everton missing finishing touch

The club's recent stadium had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have faded somewhat and supporters headed to the exits after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The end in Everton's winning streak at home won't be a massive worry for David Moyes, but their attacking woes will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' two established strikers - had netted just one league goal between them before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to add to that miserable record on a damp and dreary evening on Merseyside.

Beto's performance was epitomized when he chose to bicycle-kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having space and opportunity to reposition for a simpler shot that would have challenged the keeper.

Barry, too, failed to make an impact after replacing Beto in the second half.

It was not for a shortage of opportunity. The majority of Everton's attacks came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered threatening crosses into the Spurs penalty area.

The Toffees: The team head to the Stadium of Light in the Premier League on early November at 8 PM.
